Hello! Welcome to Beyond Soy!
The season of Halloween is upon us and with it comes plenty of candy! But how much of that candy is soy-free?
Halloween can be a tricky holiday to navigate with a food allergy, intolerance, or sensitivity. Temptation is everywhere, and many sweets are served without the ingredient list on their packaging. The good news is that there are still plenty of soy-free candy options to choose from.
Look for fruity or gummy candy. Things like Starbursts and Swedish Fish are great soy-free options. They are very common, easy to find, and don’t contain soy or soybean oil. Always check the ingredients before you buy or eat these types of candy just to be certain. These types of candy are a great place to start looking because soy isn’t that prevalent.
Eat the candy corn! In the fall season, candy corn and pumpkins are everywhere and they are soy-free! We love Brach’s Candy Corn because they use sesame oil. Some generic brands might use soybean oil, so be careful to check the ingredients before you buy, but most are certainly soy-free. (unfortunately, the chocolate candy corn does contain soy)
Avoid all the chocolate. Unfortunately, chocolate isn’t really an option when it comes to soy-free Halloween candy. All mainstream candy chocolate that we’ve found contains soy lecithin and should be avoided when avoiding soy. This isn’t too painful as there are plenty of other candy options available.
Halloween can be an easy soy-free experience. Look for fruity candy or gummy candy, check the ingredients, and eat plenty of candy corn. One last trick: know which brands of candy are soy-free so you can eat some, even if the ingredient information isn’t present! Trick-or-Treat!
