Hello! Welcome to Beyond Soy!
The temperatures are cooling off, the leaves are changing, and fall has officially arrived. While many people look to pumpkin spice lattes and cozying up indoors, here’s a soy-free adventure to try: go apple picking!
During the fall, many orchards around the country are open for apple picking. Typically, it’s free to go and you just pay for the apples that you pick. Since you can spend a few hours hanging out in the orchard and only come home with a few apples, it’s a cheap and unique experience that’s perfect for a cool fall day.
Apple picking is much more focused on enjoying the day with friends and family than it is about getting apples (although that’s a definite benefit). However, there is a food benefit here. Freshly picked apples are guaranteed to be soy-free, they make a great snack, and are perfect for baking! Homemade apple crisp or apple pie are easy to make desserts that are reliably soy-free. When you bake at home with fresh apples you can check every ingredient for soy before you use it.
Apple picking is also a good reminder of the benefits of eating produce that extend beyond nutrition. Orchards and farms usually offer a chance to relax after picking apples, so we recommend finding a chair in the sun where you sip some (soy-free) cider and enjoy a fall day with friends and family!
