Hello! Welcome to Beyond Soy!
We love Trader Joe’s! They offer fresh produce, wonderful cheese, and a great wine selection. But what really sets Trader Joe’s apart from other grocery stores is the soy-free items that they offer. Instead of specialty soy-free items, many of Trader Joe’s core products are soy-free. These products come without fanfare (and, as a result, come at regular prices). If we can’t find a particular soy-free product at our normal grocery store, we always check Trader Joe’s where we frequently find it or an adequate replacement at a very reasonable price. Without further ado, here are the five best soy-free products at Trader Joe’s:
Bread: Trader Joe’s Artisan Bread is soy-free and comes in a variety of styles. We love the variety that is offered by this bread. From garlic bread and cheese fondue to dinner rolls or a baguette, we use a variety of these loafs. The variety and consistent quality offered by Trader Joe’s bread is a wonderful resource. We love just being able to grab a loaf of bread without having to worry about soy.
Chicken Broth: Trader Joe’s Organic Free Range Chicken Broth is the easiest-to-find soy-free chicken broth. Many brands of chicken broth contain soy, which can make it difficult to find a set chicken broth that is safe for us to eat. After we found the Trader Joe’s broth, we stopped looking elsewhere. We always keep some in the pantry to throw together a quick soup on a cold day. With Trader Joe’s chicken broth, we don’t need to scour the grocery store for a soy-free variety. We also use their Organic Vegetable Broth as a great soy-free option for non-chicken-based soups!
Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is one of the hardest soy-free products to find. Almost all mayonnaise contains soy (soybean oil), so finding a soy-free variety at the grocery store can be a challenging exercise. The Trader Joe’s Real Mayonnaise is soy-free, easy to find, and reasonably priced! Instead of using soybean oil, it is made with canola oil. Finding this mayonnaise has helped make grocery shopping stress-free as we know where to look for the mayonnaise we need.
Chocolate: It frequently feels like all chocolate contains soy as even fancy, expensive chocolate contains soy lecithin. As a result, we were thrilled to find soy-free chocolate bars available at Trader Joe’s! Now we don’t need to hunt for soy-free chocolate, or pay premiums for chocolate that Ashley can eat. Instead, soy-free chocolate is so easy to find at Trader Joe’s that whenever we shop, we always throw a few Trader Joe’s Organic chocolate bars into our basket.
Dried Fruit and Nuts: Dried fruit and nuts aren’t necessarily challenging to find, and they don’t usually contain soy (you do need to watch out for some soybean oil occasionally), but we love Trader Joe’s selection. Dried fruit and nuts are a fantastic soy-free snack that’s both filling and packable without being processed. It is easy to throw together a bag of mixed fruit and/or nuts and put it in our lunch boxes for an afternoon snack. We love Trader Joe’s dried fruit and nut selection is extensive, so we can add some variety to our snacking without branching out too much into unknown foods. This section of the grocery store gives us peace of mind when shopping for a soy-free snack. We actually relied heavily on nuts from Trader Joe’s during our elimination diet because they were so easy to find and eat.
With these five soy-free products and more, Trader Joe’s is a great place to shop for soy-free food. I can’t wait until our next trip!
