Soy-Free Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

I think we can all agree that mint chocolate chip ice cream is one of the best flavors of ice cream. While ice cream is a great soy-free dessert, not all flavors are created equally soy-free. 

Basic ice cream flavors like chocolate and vanilla are almost always soy-free, but soy can still be introduced into ice cream through add-ins. Cookie dough, for example, typically includes soy and therefore cookie dough ice cream is off the table. The same situation holds true for mint chocolate chip: the mint ice cream is soy-free, but the chocolate chips always seem to contain soy lecithin and therefore we always have to pick a different flavor... until now!

We checked all the usual ice cream brands for soy-free mint chocolate chip ice cream, but we also checked the ingredients of a different type of ice cream with some positive results. Nature's Promise is a dairy-free ice cream brand (by Giant) and their ice cream is pretty tasty. But here's the great news: they have a mint chocolate chip variety that is soy-free! And we found it just in time for summer!

So, even though Ashley can eat dairy, lately we've been buying dairy-free ice cream to have mint chocolate chip in our freezer. When trying to avoid soy, it's always worth checking other allergen-friendly products. They might not be advertised as soy-free, but different ingredients and different processing steps can mean that soy may not longer be included.
