Simplicity is Key

Hello! Welcome to Beyond Soy!

One of the things that we always look for in soy-free recipes is simplicity. One straightforward reason for this is that it can feel very challenging to find soy-free ingredient options. By limiting ingredients, we can easily make meals that are soy-free. But that isn’t the only benefit of finding simple recipes… knowing simple recipes allows us to be very flexible. To help illustrate this, over the holidays we used a simple recipe with much success.

Christmas dinner can be a large affair, and ours was no exception. While everyone at these events knows that Ashley has to avoid soy, cooking for a food intolerance can be stressful and uncertain, so we always try to be as accommodating at possible. This year, a salad was served as part of dinner, but as it ended up, there was no soy-free dressing option available. This isn’t the ideal situation, but is not a big deal. Salad can be eaten without dressing or skipped as part of a larger meal. In this case, Ashley was able to use a simple recipe that we know to make a soy-free dressing (that also happens to be super delicious) to relieve pressure on the hosts and enable her to enjoy salad with everyone else.

Whipping up a lemon pepper salad dressing (using only lemon juice, olive oil, and black pepper) was only possible because of the simplicity of the ingredients. While not difficult to make, it was an incredible benefit to the meal and helped remove some stress of hosting us (and our food requirements). When you look for recipes or share soy-free food plans with others, remember to keep simplicity as a major factor. Happy simple eating!
