Christmas Sugar Cookies Recipe

Hello! Welcome to Beyond Soy!

Possibly my favorite part of the holiday season are the Christmas cookies. Christmas cookies have been a tradition in my house ever since I can remember. My mom would make tons of cookies every year and some of my favorite Christmas memories are of the afternoons when we would frost them.

While Christmas cookies come in all shapes and sizes, my favorites are simple sugar cookies. We use plenty of cookie cutters to get a variety of shapes and sizes and then frost them to really add to the holiday cheer. Enjoy!

Cookies

What you’ll need

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening (use palm oil shortening as Crisco contains soy)
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 6 cups flour

What to do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Cream shortening and sugar together
  3. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla
  4. Stir in flour (you can use slightly less than 6 cups, because the dough will pick up some flour as you roll it out)
  5. Spread the dough with a rolling pin, cut shapes, and place on cookie sheet
  6. Bake 8-10 minutes
